Author Biographies:
Chris Binchy studied English at University College Dublin and later graduated from the master's course in creative writing at Trinity College Dublin  His first novel, The Very Man, was short-listed for the Irish Novel of the Year award. Binchy is also the author of People Like Us, Open-Handed and Five Days Apart. He lives with his wife and three children in Dublin.
John Boyne attended Trinity College, Dublin and later studied Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia.  He is the author of seven novels for adults, the most recent being The Absolutist which is currently garnering splendid reviews.   His first novel for children, The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas, was a major international success, won two Irish Book Awards, and was made into a highly successful movie by Miramax.  He lives in Dublin.
Claire Kilroy’s debut novel All Summer Long, was awarded the 2004 Rooney Prize for Irish Literature.  Her second novel, Tenderwire was shortlisted for several awards and her third, All Names Have Been Changed, charts the darkly exhilarating journey of a writing group at Trinity College.  Educated at Trinity herself, Claire lives in Dublin.
Course Theme:
In this group discussion, three highly successful young Irish writers examine the various stages involved in creating a novel. How do you take an original idea and build it into a book? How do you plan and structure and edit your work? What are the practicalities of the writer’s working day and what are the best approaches to take when dealing with agents and publishers? Each of the writers will talk about their differing personal experience of the processes involved, and will discuss the topics raised in a Q&A session with members of the audience.
