In 1949, at the age of just 18, Philomena Lynott gave birth to her first son, Philip Parris Lynott. She was an Irish Catholic, unmarried and living in Birmingham. And her son was black.  He grew up to become one of the most important and influential Irish musicians of all time as lead singer with the legendary Thin Lizzy. However, the dream ended in ruins in 1986 when Philip died as a result of drug addiction. Jackie Hayden is one of the most influential players in Irish music, first as a marketing executive in the record industry and second as an educator of young people seeking careers in music.  He co-wrote, My Boy – The Philip Lynott Story, with Philomena Lynott.   Jackie is currently a contributing editor to Hot Press.
