Independent Publishing Seminar

In a refreshing and innovative move, Mountains to Sea will be one of the first festivals to feature a panel for Independent (self publishing) authors. The Alliance of Independent Author’s Irish adviser Vanessa O’Loughlin will conduct a full and frank panel discussion with successful Independent publishers Catherine Ryan Howard, Arlene Hunt and Adrian White. Vanessa runs The Inkwell Group, Ireland’s leading publishing consultancy (www.inkwellwriters.ie) and is the founder of the Irish national writing resources website www.writing.ie.

Vanessa is also Vice Chair of Irish PEN. Catherine Ryan Howard is a writer and blogger from Cork. After various agents and editors told her that there was no market for her debut—a travel memoir called Mousetrapped—she turned to self-publishing, and has gone on to sell more than 20,000 copies of her books since 2010. In February 2012 Catherine was chosen to deliver the first ever self-publishing course at Faber & Faber’s “Faber Academy” in Bloomsbury, London.
