In the opening event of this year’s festival, we are delighted to present two of the finest comic authors writing today.

How do you follow up the Man Bookerprize winning The Finkler Question? With a riotous novel about literary failure! By turns angry, elegiac and rude, Howard Jacobson’s Zoo Time is a novel about love – love of women, love of literature, love of laughter.

Paul Murray’s novel Skippy Dies, was shortlisted for the Costa Novel Award. It was number three in Time magazine’s top ten books of 2010. Despite being Irish, Paul was named one of Britain’s 20 Best Novelists Under 40 by the Daily Telegraph. Skippy Dies was described by Eileen Battersby as ‘an exceptional book about society as currently being lived...’
