George Bernard Shaw

George Bernard Shaw was a dramatist, literary critic, socialist and leading figure in the 20th century theatre. A giant of English Literature his works include John Bull’s Other Island, Doctor’s Dilemma, Pygmalion (translated on to the screen as My Fair Lady) and Heartbreak House.

In 1925 George Bernard Shaw was awarded the Noble Prize for Literature ‘for his work which is marked by both, idealism and humanity, its stimulating satire often being infused with a singular poetic beauty’. Shaw accepted the honour but refused the money.
